Saturday Evening Weather Discussion

Good evening everyone! I hope everyone went outside today, because more rain is in the forecast. Temps today soared well in the 70s!

Rain will start to move in very shortly, and will fill in through the night. Lows will only drop into the upper 50s.

Depending on where you live, tomorrow may not be a washout. Rain will move out of central and northern Indiana for most of the day, but may linger across southern Indiana. Some areas may see a little sun. Highs will be around 70.

Another flooding rain event is likely for the southern half of Indiana, as a front stalls out, meaning more heavy rains! Rain will surge back in tomorrow evening for much of central and southern Indiana, and will linger off and on Monday. Rain may stop Monday afternoon across the state, before another wave moves along the boundary Monday night and Tuesday. Most of this should be south of Indianapolis, but the models are trending north.

Rainfall totals of 1-3" is possible by Tuesday for southern Indiana, with less in central Indiana. Parts of central Indiana may see 1-2" of rainfall by Tuesday morning. Here are some models....

GFS:

That is the accumulated rain through Tuesday. More flooding in southern Indiana. :(

Temperatures will be CHILLY for May, with 50s on Monday and Tuesday.

Weather finally calming down!

Good morning! We really dodged a bullett yesterday!! A MAJOR tornado outbreak took place yesterday, killing 173 people. That is extremely rare for tornados to kill that many, so those were some strong tornados! I can't even imagine what that would be like, to lose everything! Keep the south in you prayers!

Here in Indiana, flooding continues to be a problem along the Ohio River, with major flooding going on in southern Indiana. A foot of rain has fallen in parts of southern Indiana since last week. No wonder the flooding is so bad!

The weather is FINALLY calming down, starting today. We will see sun early, then cloudy and windy, with spotty showers. Highs will hit the upper 50s.

Skies clear tonight, with chilly temps in the upper 30s-low 40s. Isolated frost is possible.

The sun will shine tomorrow, with a warm-up! :) Highs will hit the mid-upper 60s tomorrow.

Saturday looks awesome! We will enjoy sunny skies, and warm temperatures in the mid 70s Saturday. Get outside Saturday!

The second half of the weekend will be wetter, but not a complete washout. Highs Sunday will hit the upper 60s.

Next week: After showers Monday, things will dry out with sunshine for our baseball in education day Tuesday, with highs in the mow-mid 60s. We will warm near 70 by the middle of next week. More showers and below normal temps are possible later week. The overall pattern for May looks to be active, with near to slightly below normal temps.

Before I go, check out the this shot of a tornado is Tuscaloosa, AL yesterday:

That had to be scary! Have a great day!

Tornado Outbreak Kills 173 and rising!

Good morning! What a tragic day yesterday was for the south! This was one of the worst tornado outbreaks in history! 173 people were killed yesterday, with 128 of those in Alabama. The hardest hit area was Tuscaloosa, where many homes and buildings were destroyed. The death toll will continue to rise today. Pray for this today!! I will have an update on our weather in a bit.

*Tornado Watch till 3am*

9:16 Update*
Tornado watch continues to be in effect until 3am. You can track those storms on the radars from my post this morning. A major tornado outbreak hit the south today. Dozens have been killed, and a tornado a mile wide was reported in Tuscaloosa, AL. That is rare! This is nearing to be the biggest tornado outbreak in American history!! Literally! As always, say a prayer for all those who were impacted, and those who lost love ones! The south will not forget this date! I will update if anything goes severe in our area. God Bless!

The NWS in Indianapolis has issued a tornado warning for southeast Boone county, northeast Hendricks county, and far northwest Marion county. Reports of funnel clouds in this small cell, and damage in Plainfield. Take shelter in those areas. Other than northwest Marion county, shelter is not needed in Indianapolis. Severe risk continues through midnight, so please stay tuned!!!

Rainy Wednesday, how about the weekend?

Good morning! Well, we lucked out on severe weather last night! Flooding still continues to be a problem, as 1-3" of rain fell in some parts of Indiana, with the heaviest over the already flooded French Lick and areas along the Ohio River. Many counties down there are under state of emergencies.

The mid south continues to get hit with the tornado outbreaks. It never stops!! The severe chances are weak for us today, but a severe outbreak is expected from Kentucky down to the gulf coast states. Here is the SPC map for today:
Latest Day 1 convective outlook
That is a high risk down in Alabama!

-Today looks like a pretty wet day, as rain is filling in this morning. I won't rain every second today, but chances will increase by mid-afternoon.

-Periods of rain continue tonight

-Just iso.-sct. showers Thursday, with breezy and chilly conditions. Highs will only hit the mid-upper 50s.

-Friday looks like a great day, with sunshine and average temps. Highs will hit the upper 60s.

Saturday looks great!!!- The weekend will start off awesome, with a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday. Highs will hit the awesome mid 70s. :)

Sunday-Wednesday: Hard to believe this will be early May! We will start our May with some wet weather on Sunday and Monday. Highs will near 70 on Sunday, then down around 60 Monday. Tuesday is the baseball day at Victory Field, and the weather looks good! Sunny skies next Tuesday, with coolish temps in the lower 60s. It looks like a dry pattern will take over for a few days, with highs near 70 for the middle and end of next week. The average temps for early May are upper 60s and low 70s.

Before I go, here are some radars.....

Have a great day!

Major Flooding Will Continue in Southern Indiana

Good evening! It has been a crazy day of heavy rain here in southern Indiana. Many areas have already seen 4" of rain, and flash flooding over the roads. We ran into water flowing over the roads heading to Jasper this evening, so BE CAREFUL!! Up north, you guys are saying what flooding? The weather turned out to be pretty nice along and north of Indy, with sunshine today in northern Indiana. Let's talk about the weather for Easter:

- Not much change from today, HEAVY rain nearly non-stop in southern Indiana, with including today's rain, 3-6" or more is likely. Not sure if we will be able to get back home tomorrow!!

-The rain continues just about all week, with heavy rains shifting into central Indiana. As far as totals, here is the HPC rainfall map for the next 5 days:

WOW!! If southern Indiana really sees 10" of rain over the next 5 days, that is going to be the worst flooding in many, many years!! Sad thing is, I think this map is pretty accurate. Even in central Indiana, significant rain amounts are likely over the next several days, with flooding possible for central Indiana as well. Before I go, here are radars to track the flooding rain in the southern half of Indiana:

More Storms in the Forecast!

Good Thursday, everyone! After a cold and gloomy Wednesday, we are enjoying sunshine this morning. However, it is short-lived! Clouds will increase this afternoon, but it should be pretty nice. Highs will be below average, in the upper 50s. The average highs are mid 60s.

Rain showers move in after midnight, along a warm front. This should hold off until after prom. By Friday morning, .50-1" is likely. Heavy rain, along with some storms, will continue for the better part of tomorrow. Some of those could be severe. Here is the SPC map:

I will update tomorrow if anything turns severe. Heavy rain is a MAJOR threat! 2-3" of rain is likely by Saturday morning, with isolated 4" amounts is southern Indiana. I expect several roads to be closed due to flooding this weekend.

Easter Weekend: It looks to be a wet Easter weekend! While it won't rain all the time, there is a good threat of rain both days, due to a boundary across Indiana. Impulses will move along it, keeping it unsettled around here! If this helps, it will be warm! Highs will be near 70 both days.

Next Week: More of the same! Monday and Tuesday will be wet, along with some severe storms. We will warm up, too! Highs will be in the mid 70s. Lows Monday and Tuesday night may stay in the 50s & 60s. Here are some maps:

After Wednesday morning, we should dry out with sunshine for the second half of next week, with highs near 70.

Before I go, there were 14 confirmed tornados in Indiana Tuesday. Here are the counties:
  • EF2 tornado just south of Lafayette near Tippecanoe County roads 100 East and 500 South
  • EF2 tornado just north of Bretzville, on the ground for more than 3 miles.

There were also multiple spots with straight-line wind damage.

                                              Have a great day!

Calming down... For now!

Good morning! I hope everyone made it through the storms with no damage. We were lucky here in Indiana compared to Illinois! The have had many tornados on the ground there, with only 1 report in Indiana. There were lots of wind and hail reports. Here are the storm reports from the SPC:
Map of today's severe weather reports
I don't have much time, so here are some quick notes:

-Cloudy and chilly today, low 50s

-Sunny and nice Thursday, upper 50s, low 60s.

-More rounds of storms and possible severe weather for Good Friday into Easter weekend. We will warm up to! 60s Friday, low 70s this weekend, and near 80 possibly early next week. There could be flooding rains as well on Easter weekend, but it won't rain all the time.

TORNADO WATCH has been issued by the NWS in Indianapolis. A dangerous squall line stretches from northern Illinois down to Arkansas. There have been tornados reported on the ground with this squall line, so this is a serious weather situation! I am doing a live blog starting now, which means I will have constant updates at natesweatherblog.blogspot.com, so be sure to keep checking. After this update, I may not share the updates on facebook, so check this website. Btw... I just checked the SPC map, and it shows lots of spin in the atmosphere across central Indiana, not good!! Keep checking back, I will have constant updates!

Tornado Watch for Illinois

Good afternoon! The NWS has issued a TORNADO WATCH for the southern half of Illinois right now. This is just the beginning of the fun. Instability is building to our west, so storms will be able to fire towards evening. Tornadic supercells are possible. Here is the map to track the latest watches:
INDIANA:

Illinois:

Stay tuned to the radar, and the latest watches and warnings!! I may do a live blog this evening, as the warnings and watches explode. Stay tuned!

Severe storms likely today!

Good morning! What a way to start a spring morning! We had heavy rain across most of the state last night, with lots of thunder and lightning south of Indianapolis, including Martinsville. Before I get all the tracking tools on here, let's talk about TIMING of the severe storms today:

9am: Scattered showers, complex of storms crossing state line.

11am: Heavy rain, severe storms possible

1pm: Pockets of downpours, scattered severe storms.

3pm: Some dry periods, iso-sct. severe storms

5pm: Scattered severe storms, heavy downpours

7pm: Scattered severe storms, squall line develops in western Illinois

9pm: Scattered severe, tracking a squall line in Illinois

11pm: Squall line moves into Indiana, lots of severe warnings likely.

1am: Severe storms still possible, east of Indianapolis

Keep in mind, there is a lot of spin in the atmosphere, so even if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, there could be a tornado! Severe weather can happen anytime today, with the threat increasing this evening and overnight. I am going to show you all the SPC maps, and the risks for each severe element today:

Here is the tornado risk today:
SPC Day 1 1200Z Tornado Prob Outlook

As you can tell, the biggest threat is the damaging winds, and second is the hail. Here is the overall risk catagory for today:

Back to right now..... there is a mean complex of storms moving through the southwestern half of Illinois, and this is heading right towards central Indiana. I wouldn't be surprised if a severe t'storm watch is issued soon. Here is the radar:

Severe storms tomorrow evening!

Good evening, and thanks for checking back. We have one BIG temp differece in Indiana this evening. It is 38 in Gary, and 65 in Indy! Snow was falling in northern Indiana this morning! It is like two totally different climates in a span of 40 miles. CRAZY!

                  Here is the weather discussion:

Rain is filling in across the Indiana and Illinois border, and heavy rain is likely overnight. I am worried about some training, rain over the same areas over and over, so there may be flooding.

Tuesday won't be a washout, but it could rain at any time. The big story is the severe outbreak expected in the Ohio Valley, with tornadic supercells very possible tomorrow evening. I will say anytime ater 3pm, look out!!!This is a dangerous situation. This looks to come in two waves, scattered severe storms tomorrow afternoon and evening, with a dangerous squall line Tuesday night.

FAMILY SEVERE WEATHER PLAN/PREPARATIONS: Be sure to have your family severe weather plan! Also, be sure your NOAA radio works, or if you don't have one, almost all electronic stores have them. Remember it always works when the power goes out, and has a flashlight with it.  Always be sure your cell phone is charged as well! Make sure you have working flashlights in your home.

Let's pray it doesn't get as bad as expected, because this is a bit scary, but weather lovers & storm chasers love it! I will have a full update tomorrow morning, and will have detailed discussion on TIMING of the storms. Good night, and God Bless!

Worst severe outbreak of the season on the way!

Good morning! Hope everyone had a good weekend! We are waking up to a mix of clouds/sun. A few showers are falling north of Indy.

- Today will be nice with partly sunny skies, with highs in the upper 60s-70.

- Heavy rain/storms move in tonight, with up to 1" in spots

- Warm Tuesday, with severe risk increasing through the day. We are now in the moderate risk! Check out the SPC map:

Here are the probabilities:

This is a favorable set-up for tornados, so please stay tuned!! The best risk will be late tomorrow evening and night. I will try to do a live blog tomorrow evening, as the storms pop up. That is all for now, I will update later today, so check back if you want. Have a great Monday!!!

MAJOR severe outbreak looking more likely Tuesday evening!

Good evening! Sorry I haven't updated. I haven't felt too great this weekend! Here are some weather notes, and early thoughts on a severe outbreak this week:

- Rain possible north of I-70 tonight

- 60s and small shower chances tomorrow

- Storms return Monday night

- Severe storms, with an increased tornado threat likely Tuesday afternoon/night

I wish I could show some maps for Tuesday pm/night, but I am updating on my phone. There will be a warm front in central Indiana Tuesday, so areas like Louisville,KY will be in the upper 80s, while northern Indiana is in the upper 50s-low 60s. This is the kind of set up that can produce tornados in the Ohio Valley. This will be a big day for lots of storm chasers in the U.S. There is going to be a 20 degree temp difference in a span of 50 miles. There is an unusually deep snowpack in Canada, so these cold air masses are coming in as warm, gulf air moves north. This is no joke, and please stay tuned to my blog! I don't want to panic anyone, but I think it is important to talk about. Don't get scared, just know that Tuesday pm-night could be serious! Have a good evening, I will update tomorrow. God Bless!!

Destructive Jackson, MS Tornado!

This video was taken yesterday, just outside of Jackson, MS. we were VERY lucky here in Indiana! Also, I am updating my pollen level page, and my 7-day forecast! If you are like me and have allergies, it's always good to check the pollen level! Have a great day!

Nasty start to the weekend!

Good morning! We are looking at windy, wet, cold weather outside this morning. This will be the weather story today. I still expect some dry hours, but the wind and chill will comtinue. Here is the radar:

-Our Sunday will be decent, with some morning sun. Clouds will take over tomorrow afternoon, with showers possible north of Indy, mainly tomorrow night. Highs will range from 58-64.

-NEXT WEEK: The weather pattern will be as active as active can get! Monday won't be bad, with only a small shower chance. Tuesday-Wednesday will be when heavy rain and storms are likely. Highs will be in the 70s both days. The end of next week is a low confidence forecast, because there will be a boundary somewhere in the Ohio Valley. Showers will ride along that boundary, so where that sets up is the question. From Thursday-Easter, I think the boundary will be just to the south of us, so cooler air is likely. Highs will generally be in the low-mid 60s from Thursday-Easter weekend.

Before I go, there was a devastating tornado in Jackson, MS yesterday. I will post this video in a little bit, so be sure to check back. Have a great Saturday, God Bless!
