Dangerous Heat Wave Building, Then a BIG cool-down!

Good morning! Hotter weather is heading towards Indiana, & we will begin to feel it starting this afternoon!

Any morning rains will fade, and skies will clear this afternoon. Highs will be getting close to 90! Here is the radar to track any lingering showers:

For now it is all about the heat! Highs tomorrow & Friday will be pushing well in the 90s! Expect heat indices over 100! This will be some very intense heat, just like we saw in late July! Some areas may flirt with 100 degrees!

The changes come for our Labor Day weekend! Saturday will be mainly dry, with storm chances increasing late in the day. It will mark another 90 degree day!

Rain chances really ramp up Saturday evening-overnight-through Sunday. Heavy rain is possible, along with some pretty good rounds of storms. Still too early to tell if anything will be severe. Behind the front late Sunday, it will get MUCH cooler! Mid 80s Sunday, to the middle 70s Monday, as we dry out.

Tracking Another Heat Wave, Labor Day Forecast, Latest on Tropics!

Good morning! Thanks for checking the blog! What a gorgeous morning! Many areas saw lows in the low 50s this morning! This is a good time to turn the a/c off, because you will need it going full blast starting Thursday!

Highs today will hit the middle 80s, with lots of sun!

Clouds will be increasing tonight, with a shower threat. Lows will be in the low 60s.

Slightly warmer tomorrow, in the mid-upper 80s. A few showers are possible, but many areas will stay dry.

The heat wave takes hold starting Thursday! Check out these numbers I am predicting:

Thursday: 93. Heat index near 100.

Friday: 97. Heat index: 100-105.

Saturday: 91. Heat index near 100.

Please take it easy, and don't leave pets or children in the car. Thursday & Friday stay dry, but storm chances increase starting Saturday. This is where the changes begin. Sunday will be cooler in the 80s, with more storm chances. The front moves through Sunday night, and it will pump in cool Canadian air! Highs on Labor Day will only hit the middle 70s! Check out this cool shot on the maps below:

You should notice the overall pattern, cool in the east, hot in the west. This pattern is going to continue, and likely to see temps slightly cooler than average for the first few weeks of September!

Tropics: Tropical storm Katia has formed in the Atlantic, still a little iffy whether it will impact to U.S, so check back. Here is where Katia is located:
TC Activity

A busy time in the tropics for sure! We may also need to watch the Gulf, because something may try to form there this weekend. Thanks for checking the blog, check back for more updates!

Nice For Now, High Heat Later This Week!

Good afternoon! Now that Irene is out, I can finally start talking about our weather here in Indiana. The weather has been simply quiet and sunny for a while, and today is no exception.

The weather will be great as you head out this evening, temps will be in the upper 70s-low 80s. Lows tonight will be in the mid-upper 50s!

Tomorrow should start sunny, then end with clouds increasing. Highs will be in the low-mid 80s.

A warm front will lift north Tuesday night-Wednesday, with a few showers possible. Most areas will continue to stay dry, however.

Thursday and Friday will be HOT & HUMID! Highs will soar in the middle 90s, with heat indices 100-105! Heat advisories may be issued, so stay tuned.

Labor Day Weekend: Next weekend is going to be a big weekend for many famalies, as we grasp the last fun holiday of the summer! :( Saturday will be warm & muggy, with decent storm chances. That doesn't mean it will rain all day. The cold front begins to move through Sunday, with more rain chances. We dry out for Labor Day, but REALLY cool down! Highs will go from 90 Saturday, to 75 Monday!

The rain chances are great news, even if we get it during a busy weekend! Much of the region is suffering in a moderate drought, stressing the trees and yards! Here is the latest drought map:

The models are really starting to show a good shot of very cool air for much of next week. Temps during the time will only hit the middle 70s, and lows may get as low as the upper 40s! Also, I am interested in the amount of cold air already building up in Canada. This should tell you something about our upcoming winter! :)

We'll have to wait & see how deep that trough will get next week. Anyway, thanks for checking Nate's Weather Blog.

Tracking Irene!

Irene has made landfall this morning, and is a category 1. You have got to tune into the weather channel, because they have crews reporting live out in this, and it is truly unbelievable!! Looks like lots of damage is taking place in  Virginia and North Carolina at this time. They literally have to hang on to something to not blow away!
Video

I have heard from the NYC mayor that they may shut off power in the city! This storm is going to cause major damage to major NE cities, along with major flooding and beach erosion. Here are radars to track Irene's northward track:

Here are some webcams...

I will have more updates this evening.

Tracking Irene

Good afternoon! Hurricane Irene is now bringing rain to eastern parts of South & North Carolina. I put a couple radars on here, to track the very heavy rain bands moving in. If there is any good news, it is still a category 2, so it could be worse! I am very worried about the flooding expected along the east coast, as they could see as much as 13" of rain! Incredible to say the least! Here is a rainfall potential map, along with radars and webcams for the Carolinas:

Morehead City, NC

Nags Head, NC

Myrtle Beach, SC

I will have another update on Irene this evening, and will be updating lots this weekend! Have a great afternoon.

Irene Tracking Center

Good morning! All eyes continue to be on Irene, as that is a big headline across the U.S. right now! This storm is going to affect so many people, & its going to be a busy weekend in the weather world for sure. I have set up webcams on the blog from the east coast, so we can have a view of what is going on!

Before I get to that.. let's hurry and discuss our weather. Really not much to talk about, we will enjoy lots of sun, and temps today in the middle 80s. A weak front looks to move into the area tomorrow, but for now I am keeping it dry, with lots of sun still expected. Temps will be in the middle 80s. This will knock our temps down around 80 for Sunday.

LATEST ON IRENE: As of this morning Irene i down to a cat. 2, but likely to upgrade to a cat. 3 by time it hits the Carolinas. Check out all the hurricane watch/warnings along the east coast, and the latest track:

Hurricane Irene Update

Good afternoon! It is a gorgeous afternoon outside, with lots of sun, and less heat & humidity. These trend will continue over the next several days.

Right now, we focus our attention on Irene. This is going to be a historical storm for the east coast, and farther west than most tropical systems. Irene is already bringing rains to Florida this afternoon, and look how massive this storm is on the satellite:
goes east infra red hurricane sector image

Here is the latest info from the National Hurricane Center:
[Image of 5-day forecast and coastal areas under a warning or a watch]

This storm is going to be a MAJOR hit to major cities like Philadelphia, Norfolk, New York City, & Dover to name a few. This eye may go right on top of New York City, something that hasn't happened since the 1800s. Scary for sure!

Can't forget North Carolina! This storm is going to be a major hit to the outer banks of NC, and the eastern half of the state for sure! The Euro continues to be farther west with the storm, and you can see it clearly on the maps below:

Please stay tuned for updates on Irene. Have a great afternoon!

Beautiful Days Ahead-Latest on Irene!

Good morning! As you know, a line of storms moved through central Indiana last night, bringing much needed rain to parts of the state. The line really lost its punch by time it moved just south of Indy, because we had barely any rain at our house!

After that 96 degree high yesterday, it is going to feel SO much better today! Highs will only hit the mid 80s, with much lower humidity.

Lows tonight will dip in the upper 50s for many.

Friday-Sunday: Really nothing to talk about around here. Sunny skies, highs in the middle 80s, lows around 60 right on through the weekend. A great weekend coming for outdoor activities! :)

Extended: Looking ahead to next week, I am going to keep each day dry next week, with a gradual return of the heat! Low 80s early in the week, then we heat it back up to near 90 for the end of next week. Don't you wish we could get some rain!

Latest on Irene: Irene is now a major hurricane, & now looks like it could make category 4 status when reaching the Carolinas early Sunday morning. The models have shifted west some-which is very bad news for the east coast! Right now, it looks to make a landfall on the outer banks of North Carolina, meaning if you live in North Carolina, especially the eastern half, expect very high, damaging winds, dangerous coastal flooding, and very heavy rains! I would evacuate! Also, the eye of this hurricane may go right on top of New York City, as a category 1. Very scary for sure, and this may be a historical hurricane for the NE. Here is the latest track of Irene:

Latest on Irene

Irene is now a category 3, making it a major hurricane. Here is the latest track of Irene, it looks like it will stay just off the east coast, then making landfall later Sunday, in the northeast. If you live in the Carolinas, or anywhere near the east coast, still expect very high winds, heavy flooding rains, and coastal flooding. Here is the impact map from the weather channel, depending on where you live along the east coast:

Heat Index over 100 degrees in Indy!

Good hot afternoon! After some very comfortable weather the past few weeks, temperatures today are back where they were during our heat wave last month. As of 2pm, it is 92 degrees in Indy, with a heat index of 101! That is what it feels like to your skin when you step outdoors. While no heat advisory is in effect, it can still be dangerous if your not careful. If you are going to be outdoors this afternoon, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks into an air-conditioned building. Here are the current temperatures:
Indiana Temperature Map

Here is a heat index map:

Indiana Heat Index Map

Along with the heat.. storms continue to be a big threat as a cold front moves into this hot, muggy, unstable air. There is nothing on the radar anywhere near us right now, but by this evening, I expect that to change. Here is the radar:

Have a good afternoon, and stay cool!

A hot day ahead, along with storms!

Good morning! It is a warm, muggy start this morning, and we are going to see our temperatures today likely the hottest since early in the month. Sunshine will be the rule through much of the day ahead, along with a southwest wind. Highs will hit the low 90s, with heat indices near 100 in the southwest.

I expect a line of potent thunderstorms to move in this evening, with damaging winds & hail main threats. Here is the severe risk outline:

Latest Day 1 convective outlook

I will have updates either here, on on the Indiana Weather Updates facebook page if anything turns severe, so be sure to check that out!

By tomorrow morning skies will be clearing out, along with drier air moving in! Sunny skies in the forecast tomorrow, and about 10 degrees cooler! Highs will hit the low-mid 80s.

From Friday through the weekend, we can expect tons of sun, and highs in the comfortable middle 80s.

Looking ahead to next week, rain chances will be hard to come by, as we can expect mainly dry weather continuing, and highs in the low-mid 80s.

I will have an update on Irene this afternoon!

Latest on Irene

Irene as of 2pm is a category 2 hurricane, with sustained winds of 100 mph. There have been some more eastward adjustments in the track, which is great news, considering that the eye may not ever make landfall. It still looks like it may either in Virginia or North Carolina. Here is the latest track, again likely to be adjusted farther eastward:

Tracking heavy rain northwest of Indy!

Good afternoon! The rain that I was talking about moving in tonight is sneaking up on us faster than thought. Heavy rainfall is impacting northwest Indiana at this time, and cities like Lafayette and Crawfordsville going to get hit shortly. Indy may actually see some rainfall, with most of it moving just north of the city. Areas south of I-70 stay dry.
Graphical depiction of weather expected in the near-term.

Here is the radar in motion:

I will have more blog posts about Irene here shortly.

Tracking storm chances-along with Irene!

Good morning! Sorry for the lack of posts as of late! Anyway, wasn't yesterday a gorgeous day? We enjoyed lots of sun, and those oh so nice temperatures! Another nice on the way today!

We will see sunny skies through early afternoon, then some clouds filtering in by the evening. Highs will be a bit warmer, in the upper 80s. Humidity stays comfortable.

Showers and storms are possible tonight, especially north of I-70. Heavy rain is likely, along with a risk of some severe storms! I will update as needed if anything turns severe on Indiana Weather Updates facebook page.

Isolated storms are possible tomorrow, along with partly sunny skies. It will be hot! Highs will soar in the low 90s, on a south wind.

Storms are likely again Wednesday night. Not everyone will see it, but lets hope everyone gets some, because we need it!!

We clear it out Thursday, and a gorgeous pattern takes hold through the weekend! Highs will be in the mid-upper 80 range trough Sunday, with lots of sun.

Latest on Irene: Right now, it looks like Irene will pass just east of Florida, and making landfall in North Carolina, as a major hurricane, cat. 3. Here is how the European model shows the storm along the east coast:

Here is a satellite view of Irene right now:

Here is a projected path of Irene:
[Image of 5-day forecast and coastal areas under a warning or a watch]

If you have family anywhere along the east coast, especially in the Carolinas, make sure they are aware of the situation, and prepared for the worst! This storm looks to actually make landfall in North Carolina just after midnight Saturday, early Sunday am.

Thanks for checking the blog, have a great day!
