WINDY WINDY WINDY

Good morning! WINDY is definately the name of the game today. We are sitting on the backside of the low, meaning lots of wind, which is also pumping in colder air. Temperatures today will fall, and we may even see a few sprinkles or snow flurries. You can track any action on the radars tab at the top.

The weekend will start cold, with lows in the lower 20's, and highs in the 30's tomorrow. However, a huge temperature turn-around by Sunday, as highs warm up near 50 or more in many areas, under sunny skies and gusty south winds.

Very mild temperatures will be the rule for the first half of next week. Monday and Tuesday will be fantastic, with highs soaring in the 50's. Rain chances could return though by Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, a storng low-pressure system will move north of our area, which could mean a potential for big thunderstorms, and temperatures soaring close to 60 on Wednesday. That system will be followed by colder air for the second part of next week:

Thanks for checking out the blog, have a great Friday!

Warmer Air Moving In - Latest On Storm Chances And Timing

Good afternoon! We have a wide temperature spread across the region. 66 degrees in Evansville, 57 in Bloomington, 50 in Indy, and 43 in Muncie, due to clouds and showers. Some areas in far southern Indiana will approach the 70 degree mark!!! Here is the complex weather set-up:

Severe Threat: The warm front is lifting north, with warm and muggy air surging in south of the warm front. Temperatures in western KY are surging well into the 70's! So, the atmosphere is definately getting set for the severe storms tonight. This is NOT expected to be a major storm outbreak, in fact, this is not a widespread severe chance either. Just scattered storms that could create some severe wx such as hail, damaging winds, and a couple tornadoes. The chances for severe weather remain along and south of I-70.

Ssslight1

Timing: Storms should begin to develop by 4pm in extreme southwest Indiana, and western Kentucky. The storms will expand quickly into Indy shortly after. Here is the RPM model timing through the evening:

4pm: A couple storms in southern Illinois.

6pm: Scattered storms likely in Indy metro and southward. Could be some damaging wind threat with this and large hail.

8pm: Scattered storms continue for central Indiana southward. Isolated severe.

Severe weather chances will remain in the forecast through 10pm, then dissapating overnight, as colder air moves in.

This could be a busy next several hours. Stay tuned to the facebook page for latest updates on severe weather warnings. More updates on the blog if needed. Enjoy the mild day out there now, because storms will develop pretty soon!

**Storms Moving Through Southern Indiana**

Good evening..again! A west to east line of storms has developed across southern Indiana. Check out the latest radar image:

**Affected Cities** Oakland City, Petersburg, Loogottee, Jasper, Ferdinand, Santa Claus, English, French Lick, Patoka Lake area, Tell City, Rockport, Clarksville.

**What to expect** Heavy rainfall, some hail, lightning, and very gusty winds are the main threat,  with the strongest winds ahead of the line. While severe warnings can't be ruled out, severe threat is pretty low.

The radars tab at the top will be very useful to track these showers/storms through the evening. If anything does turn severe, I will let you know via facebook.

Mild Temps - Storms - Return Of Winter!

Good evening! Talk about a mild day! 58 was the high temperature in Indy today! I know a lot of people are loving it. Not only does it feel like spring...it even looks like spring in some places! When I came home today, I found three crocus plants blooming in my yard....

On to the weather.. we have scattered showers moving across the state. Nothing too heavy, just enough to make the roads damp. On a side note, the winds will continue to be very gusty overnight. It would be a good idea to secure any loose outdoor furniture.

Tomorrow, the best chance of showers will be along and north of I-70. It will be another mild day, with a bit of a temperature spread setting up. Areas near Louisville in southern Indiana will get close to 70 degrees, with 60's as far north as Bloomington and Columbus. Indy should reach the mid/upper 50's, with cooler air lingering in northern Indiana. Due to some warmer air and instability to our south, the SPC has placed extreme southern Indiana in a slight risk for severe storms...

If anything turns severe down there, I will let you know via facebook or twitter tomorrow. The best chance for any severe weather in that area would be between 4-8pm. There aren't a ton of dynamics coming together for this, so I'm not too impressed with the severe potential.

By Friday, MUCH colder air moves in! It looks like we could see some lingering snow flurries/sprinkles during the day Friday. With enough cold air filtering in Friday evening, snow flurries may be flying around.

No accumulations in central or southern Indiana, but the area of concern would be extreme northern Indiana. Here is my snowfall map for extreme northern Indiana and southern Michigan:

Keep that in mind if your plans take you north late Friday through Saturday.

The weekend looks to start very chilly, with many areas staying in the 30's for highs Saturday! Much warmer by Sunday, in the upper 40's. Both days will be dry.

The active pattern continues into next week. Temperatures will get close to 50 on Monday, with another rain chance. Back to the upper 30's Tuesday, then another storm system moves in Wednesday. Interestingly, some models say heavy snow, others say rain. Bottom line.. more headaches on the way. I might as well hide from the models, to avoid all the usual weather model drama. :)

The models continue to show a up and down pattern over the next few weeks. Lots of ups and downs to deal with. If your familiar with weather in the Ohio Valley, this is a very common pattern around here this time of year. It is important to not get used to any type of weather around here, because mother nature sure likes to confuse us this time of year!

Don't forget you can check the latest radar at the "radars" tab at the top of the page. Thanks for checking the blog, have a great evening!

Spring-Like Weather!

Good afternoon! It is a very mild day out there! At last check, it is 57 degrees in Indy! Could Indy reach 60? It will be a close call. Here is a look at the temperatures across the state (**Note: this map isn't updated, so these temps are from two hours ago**)..

indiana temperature forecast map

You will notice the cooler temperatures off to our north. That is due to thicker clouds and some showers. I won't rule out a few showers this afternoon, but certainly no washout for any location. Here is the latest look at the satellite/radar across the Midwest:

So don't cancel any outdoor plans today, just be aware that a few showers could develop at any given location. Looking ahead to tomorrow, southern Indiana is under a slight risk for severe storms:

Along with that, highs could top 60 across portions of central and southern Indiana!! Enjoy the warmth, because snow showers are in the forecast Friday!

Have a great rest of your day!

"Under The Weather" Update

Good afternoon! Your weather dude hasn't been feeling too great the past couple days. Fever, upset stomach, and everything else. Moral of the story.. this will be a quick update. I will leave you with some weather notes for the next several days.....

-Breezy afternoon expected, highs will hit the upper 40's.

-It will be feeling spring-like over the next couple days. Some areas will top the 60 degree mark Thursday! :)

-Despite the mild temps, isolated to scattered showers will be possible each day. Lots of dry weather expected as well.

-MUCH colder Friday-Saturday. Highs will cool down in the 30's, with the chance of snow showers.

I should have a full update tomorrow. Have a great rest of your day.

Warmer Air Returns Along With Rain Chances

Good evening, everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. It has been a decent weekend weather-wise across the state! Hard to believe a snowstorm is taking place to our south (of all places) across portions of Tennessee, Kentucky, and the Virginias. Up to 9" could accumulate in some places there. Here is a picture from Prestonburg, Kentucky:

Yup, I've pretty jealous! :) I have been waiting all winter to get a good snow in Indiana, but it's unreal how hard it has been to get any snow around here, and now I'm all for spring warmth and thunderstorms! Who's with me? :)

Looking ahead, we have a very cold night coming. Many areas will drop into the lower 20's by morning. This is not something people would normally say in winter, but if you have any blooming daffodils, be sure to cover them up! Hard to believe we have EASTER flowers blooming in February. A full month early at least. Despite a cold start tomorrow, it will turn out to be a great day. Highs will warm into the upper 40's, with tons of sunshine around.

The warming trend will continue through much of the week, but... there will be many rain chances. The rain returns to the forecast as early as tomorrow night, as a disturbance moves through.

That rain will move out by Tuesday afternoon, as highs warm near 50. Even warmer air is set to arrive Wednesday! Some areas in southern Indiana could approach 58 degrees, with 53-55 degrees in central Indiana. Despite the warmth, some scattered showers will remain possible. Cooler will gradually move in by the end of the week, as the scattered rain remains in the forecast. By Saturday, we could be talking snow showers, as a quick cold shot of air moves in.

I say quick shot of air, because another rapid warm-up will build in behind this blast. 50s are likely return early the following week. Then perhaps another shot of cold air. We may have to watch for severe weather during these warm to cold situations. Certainly a very up and down for sure! By March, I think the warm air will be winning the battle.

Thanks for checking the blog, have a great night. God Bless!

Spring-Like Afternoon - Winter Storm to POUND Kentucky this weekend!

Good afternoon! Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday. The weather is nothing short of awesome out there today. Sunshine and 50 degrees is simply great weather for February. The average high is about 41 degrees for this time of year. While we expect quiet conditions this weekend in Indy, a major snowstorm is going to slam Kentucky, late Saturday night and Sunday. I want you to take a moment and check out some of these snow totals the models are showing!

NAM:

That's no joke! 8-12" is likely for the eastern half of Kentucky, with 4-8" for the Lexington and Frankfort metros. Notice the SHARP cut-off! 50 miles can make the difference from 0" to 10"! Now we check the GFS..

GFS:

The models are in full agreement now, but Indiana gets a complete miss! :( Extreme southern Indiana (south of I-64) could pick up 1/2"-1", mainly from a Evansville to Louisville line. South of that line, (mainly south of the River) is where the bulk of the snow takes place. Keep in mind, a shift of 50 miles will have a HUGE impact on the forecast! It wouldn't take a major shift to bring snow accumulations to southern Indiana, but at this time that is not likely.

I remember a system like this last year, which was expected to take this same track. Instead at last minute, it took a sudden shift to the northwest, and brought several inches of unexpected snow to southern Indiana. I am NOT saying that will happen, just saying that it is a little to close for comfort.

This storm will be the main talk on the blog the next several days. I will be posting webcams from Kentucky as the storm nears. I expect winter storm watches to go up south of the Ohio River later today or tomorrow. Have a great rest of your day.

WINTER STORM JUST SOUTH OF INDIANA THIS WEEKEND

Nice & Mild Friday - Southern Storm This Weekend - March Outlook

Good evening! Hope everyone is having a great week. Sorry about my lack of posts! I will try to update the blog daily again. Anyway, today actually turned out to be a not so bad day! The rain moved out, and we saw some peeks of late day sun, to go along with mild temperatures.

Friday is looking like a spectacular day! Sunny skies and highs nearing 50. I know it has been a while since we have had sunny and dry conditions, so get out and enjoy it.

There is a system many forecasters across the Ohio Valley and eastern U.S. are keeping a very close eye on for the weekend. There will be a strong storm to affect areas just south of Indiana, which could throw accumulating snows to parts of Kentucky. Parts of southern and eastern Kentucky could see a  *potential* winter storm Saturday night into Sunday, with just enough dynamics to create snow. The GFS continues to show snow Sunday morning just south of the Ohio River:

If that were to trend northward, I will let you know. I just want to give you a heads up, in case you had any travel plans this weekend south of Indiana. Anyway, IF the GFS were to verify, Kentucky would have a significant snowfall:

Our friends and snow-lovers in Kentucky may finally get their wish. I'm STILL waiting for a big snow to hit the Hoosier state! Time is running out, as spring is about 1 month away now, and still no big snow yet. What NOT a winter! :)

Looking ahead to next week, mild temperatures will return, as a very active pattern takes hold.

FYI: The March Outlook came in, the CPC is calling for way above-normal temps along with wetter-than-normal conditions. This could very well mean a early spring this year. I'm not saying we can't get any more snow, but the chances are going down as spring is getting closer!

March Temperatures:

March Precipitation:

Hard to believe that spring is right around the corner. Thanks for stopping by the blog! More updates tomorrow. Have a great night.

A Snowy Morning!

Good morning! What a great start to the day for snow-lovers! Many areas had a solid 1-3", with a solid 2" of snowfall at my house. (I got up at 5:30 to shovel the driveway)! If you remember, I lowered the totals to 1" yesterday evening, thinking dry air would cut the totals, but this system certainly brought heavier bands than expected, so it exceeded my expectations. We had almost 1" of snow in one hour at my house last night, while I just sat in amazement! I have to admit, it has been a while since I saw snow come down that heavy. I got a couple snapshots of the snow at 5 this morning, take a look:

This was one of those snows that basically stuck to everything, making a winter wonderland this morning! I still wish this would of come during the weekend, so I could take advantage of it, but oh well!

The snow will be dripping away and melting through the afternoon, as our temps hit the upper 30's, with light drizzle possible.

I am out of time, so I will have another update later today. It looks like much warmer air is on the way, as early as tomorrow! Have a great day!

5:30 Radar Update

Good evening, everyone. We are still on track for a bit of snow across the Hoosier state tonight, but this system is weakening a bit as it heads east. Check out the latest radar. Where it looks like it's snowing is actually verga, or precipitation not reaching the ground due to the dry atmosphere. The "dry" atmosphere is what could cut down on totals for tonight's event. Here's the latest look at radar:

The roads WILL become slick overnight, with much of the snow starting between 8-10pm. Allow yourself a little extra time in the morning, as snow will still be around for the morning rush. Many areas will average out around 1" of snowfall, with some isolated areas southwest of Indy possibly getting 2". This is not a big system, but enough to be a nuisance!

Don't forget to follow my weather page on facebook, for frequent updates through the evening! Click the "Facebook Page" tab at the top. Also, the radars and weather cams tabs are very useful to track the snow.

Snow On The Way - Latest Totals!

Good afternoon! Hope everyone is having a good day so far. I am still tracking snow to our west, which will arrive later this evening. A winter weather advisory is in effect for southern Indana, where slightly higher totals are possible. The latest radar indicates snow breaking out to our west, which should arrive in Indy metro by 8pm or so.

The snow will be light, but steady overnight, and slick roads are possible! Travels after 8-9pm this evening will be impacted with snow and some slick spots on roadways. Unfortunately, the snow looks to continue through the morning commute, so allow yourself some extra time in the morning. How much snow? It looks like a general 1 to possibly 2", but latest trends have lowered the totals to 1" or so. I still like the idea of a band of 2"+  across southern and western Indiana. Indiana. So the morning commute won't be impossible, just be prepared for some slick spots.

Don't forget about the radars and weather cams tab at the top of the page. Have a great rest of your day.

Tracking Snow To Our West!

Good morning! It is a quiet and bitter cold morning, as we set the stage for snow tonight. The radar is quite busy to our west, as a widespread area of light to moderate snow is already moving in St. Louis this morning, and marching north and east!

Now here's the big question: When will the snow arrive? It looks to arrive slightly earlier than thought, but much of the evening rush hour should be spared. The snow will begin to fall in western Indiana by 5pm or so, with the snow beginning in Indy by 7pm. I expect the snow to create very slick driving conditions later this evening.

The snow will continue to fall steady overnight, and will create a potentially slick drive Tuesday morning. I would prepare to leave extra early in the morning! Now how much snow are we going to get?? The models have been very consistent with a widespread 1-2" snowfall, with isolated areas getting 3". Surface temperatures should be cold, due to the arctic airmass over the area this morning. That should help the snow to stick on some roadways.

Don't forget about the radars and weather cams tab at the top of the page! That is very useful to track the snow, and see what road conditions are likely in different portions of the state. I will have updates later this evening, as the snow arrives. If anything changes, I will let you know. Have a great day!

Latest On Tomorrow Night's Snow Chances!

Good evening! Hope you enjoyed today's sunshine, because the forecast for the week ahead is active! That includes the chances for snow. Perhaps enough to shovel/sled/or even make a snowman. Not sure about you.. but my shovel is getting pretty dusty sitting in the garage! Seems like the last several snows have under-achieved, and didn't stick. This one looks different, as it will have an easier time sticking to road surfaces. Anyway, there are tons of winter advisories/warnings to our west. Check out this map:

This image displays watches, warnings, statements and advisories issued by the National Weather Service

Areas across Kentucky/Tennessee/Arkansas may have to deal with icing and snow..making for even worse conditions! The good news is that this will be a snow event for much of Indiana. Now the big question is, when will the snow arrive??

At this point, I am keeping the evening commute dry tomorrow. I think flurries begin by 8pm, then the real stuff begins around 10pm.

Here is the GFS for tomorrow night, showing snow as the precip type for much of the state.

The snow will continue through late morning Tuesday, then taper to flurries/drizzle in the afternoon.

How Much Snow?? I am sticking to my guns of 1-3", with Indy metro getting 1.5-2". So I will go with a general range of 1-3". The best chance for areas seeing 2-3" would be in western Indiana. This forecast could  go up or down ever so slightly, but there is pretty good agreement with this system. With overnight temps in the upper 20's to near 30, I would expect the snow to stick on basically everything, including the roads. I think the Tuesday morning is going to be tricky with a steady snow falling. I do expect enough for some areas to be plowing and shoveling snow. With very little wind, this should be a picturesque snowfall!

I know that the last several events were much weaker than forecast, so let's hope this is the one that over-acheives! If the forecast holds, I think snow-lovers will be happy! More updates on this system tomorrow, and also frequent updates on my facebook page. Have a great night, and God bless!

Decent Snow On The Way?

Good morning! First off, what a cold start to your Sunday! Temperatures were in the lower teens this morning! The good news is that sunshine will warm us up near 30-32 degrees this afternoon. Still cold!!

Now lets talk snow! A system is brewing to our west, and has prompted winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories over much of the Plains. This same system will affect Indiana.

HPC has the 4" potential from central Illinois and westward for this event.

Snow4in

This system should dump 2-4" of snow over Illinois and westward, but weaken slightly as it hits Indiana. This where the difficult forecast sets in. If this storm were to remain stronger longer than thought, we would be dealing with a decent snowfall. I still think this storm will bring the highest snow accumulation of the season for many areas! :) Again, that does NOT mean a major snowstorm by any means!

Now it's all about the timing. Flurries are likely by tomorrow evening's rush hour, then a quick change to steady snow Monday night. Notice that the GFS shows a steady snow falling all night Monday night:

What does Nate think?? In this type of set-up, we have very cold air over the area now. This will be a big help to get the snow to stick Monday night. Temperatures Monday night look to hover around 28-30 degrees, making for a perfect snow temperature. If you have plans after 7pm tomorrow, snow will be falling, and roads may slicken up quickly. This will also mean a very interesting drive into work Tuesday morning, as snow will still be falling. How much snow? I expect a general 1-3" area wide, with 1" possible in extreme southern Indiana. The NAM model also agrees with my thoughts:

The snow we do get won't last long, as warmer temps will arrive mid-week. So here is hoping we get a nice little snowfall tomorrow night! Have a great rest of your Sunday.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Bitter Cold - Tracking Snow Chances!

Good afternoon! What a bitter cold day! The wind chills are running in the single digits across the area, and temperatures are in the lower to middle 20's. How about our latest snow system? Well it was definately an underachiever! While we had several hours of moderate snow, the temps didn't drop until much of the precipitation was gone. These are tricky systems as 32/33 degrees can make the difference.

Now we get ready for a frigid night!! I mean seriously. Lows will dip in the single digits to low teens, with wind chills well below 0. BUNDLE UP! For your Sunday.. a little better! The winds will calm down, and sunshine will warm us near 30 degrees or so.

Now we are tracking our next snow chance late Monday into Tuesday! This one will deliver more snow than the last several systems. Unfortunately, this will be a weaker storm when it reaches Indiana, but areas west of the Mississippi River in the Plains could pick up 4-6". For Indiana, I'm expecting a widespread 1-2" snowfall. This will be a good set-up for a sticking snow, as surface temps will be cold, so all the snow will stick with this system, unlike yesterday's system. Here is the GFS showing the precip. falling as light snow Monday night.

It appears that much of this will move in around or just after the commute home Monday. I can't stress enough that I am NOT expecting a snowstorm, but enough to make things look pretty!

TOTALS: If you live in southwest Indiana, you will be the winner with this storm, as 2-3" falls there, including the cities of Evansville and Vincennes, due to heavier precipitation. As the precipitation moves east, the precipitation will become lighter. A widespread 1-2" inches expected for the majority of the state, including the Indy metro. Areas east of I-65 will see up to 1",

IMPACTS: Not a big storm, but the snow will be sticking Monday night. If you have plans later in the evening on Monday, you may have slick roads to deal with. I do expect this to be a slightly bigger snow than the last few, because the colder temperatures will allow for everything to stick on contact.

If anything changes to the forecast, I will let you know. Have a great evening, and stay warm.

8:15 RADAR UPDATE

Good morning! Latest radar indicates that flurries are falling in parts of the state. Most of the action is starting to develop in Illinois, with a few observations reporting light snow now. Here is the latest radar showing flurries northwest of the city....

Don't forget to check the radars tab at the top, and the live weather cams as well. I expect the snow to fall by 11 this morning as flurries, then picking up to a steady light/moderate snow this afternoon/evening. 1-2" is likely by late tonight.

Have a great Friday!

SNOW UPDATE

*Mid-Evening Update* - The forecast basically still looks on track from my last post. A winter weather advisory is in effect for southern Indiana and much of Kentucky. This isn't because higher totals are expected there, it's because those counties are under a different criteria level for advisories. For Indy, the NWS only issues an advisory if at least 3" is expected. For southern Indiana, 2" can qualify for an advisory event. Here is the latest advisory outline:

The only change to the forecast, is that I think much of the state is going to have an all snow event, with a mix possible southwest of Bloomington/Terre Haute line tomorrow. The snow will begin by middle/late morning hours, and will fall steady during the afternoon and evening! Even with temperatures in the 32-34 degree range, the upper-levels will be well below freezing. Notice how much of the state stays in the blue (snow) tomorrow afternoon.

BOTTOM LINE: The snow begins after the morning commute, more likely between 11am-1pm. The snow will fall steady, but mainly light tomorrow afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be key on how much sticks! My gut tells me that once the snow begins to fall, it can cool down the atmosphere, and cause our temps to hover around 32-33 tomorrow afternoon. By the evening rush hour, a coating-1" of snow will have already fallen. As our temperatures drop throughout the evening, the snow will stick to the roads after sunset, and leftover wet roads will become icy. Roads WILL be hazardous tomorrow evening. Here is a map of expected snow totals when we wake up Saturday morning.

Thanks for making the blog your weather source! Have a great night.

SNOW ON THE WAY!

It's amazing how much a forecast can change! The system looks colder and stronger tomorrow, which will give us a good chance of snow!

The system will move in tomorrow late morning, and snow will be falling tomorrow afternoon. Areas south of I-70, mainly south of Bloomington, will see a rain/snow mix tomorrow/ transitioning to snow tomorrow night.

-For central Indiana northward, I expect this to be an all snow event. 1" will be on the ground by 5pm, with around 2" on the ground by later in the evening.

-For southern Indiana, I expect snow to start, then transitioning to a rain/snow mix through the afternoon. You guys will see the precip. transition to all snow by early evening, with 1-2" in this area as well.

-TOTALS: I expect a widespread 1-2" across the entire state. I would not rule out an isolated 3" amount in eastern Indiana.

Keep in mind this is a developing situation, and this isn't set-in stone. Be sure to follow my facebook page for the latest updates.

Feeling Like Winter - Tracking Snow Showers

Good Wednesday afternoon, everyone! Hope your day is going good. It was a day that started with a little something that we have been lacking of.... SNOW! However, this did NOT put a dent in the snow drought. Many areas picked up 1/4"-1/2", depending on location. Officially .2 at the airport. Now we are seeing the chilly temps remaining! Here is a look at the current temperatures across the state:

indiana current temperature map

Also, tracking a band of *light* snow showers southwest of Indianapolis. This is NOT big deal. Areas from Martinsville to Bloomington will be impacted by this band. Roads will stay wet, perhaps a light dusting on elevated surfaces.

Outside of this band, a few flurries may fly across the state through mid-evening.

Before I go, here are some weather highlights I am tracking:

-Arctic blast still set to arrive Friday night. Snow showers are possible Friday night, but generally 1/2" or under expected.

-The weekend looks COLD! Lows this weekend may be in the lower teens, with highs mainly in the 20's, for afternoon highs.

-Things look very active next week.

Mid-Evening Snow Update

Good evening! I'm sure you snow-lovers are a little happy right now! While we are talking very light snow, with a nearly snow-less winter, even a little snow makes the spotlight. Here is the latest:

Snow Latest: The forecast still looks on track from my earlier forecast. The snow will move in between 4-10 tomorrow morning, and will be a light steady snow for the morning commute. The INDOT crews are putting down brine tonight, and with temps near freezing, I would only expect slushy spots on the roads at best. Here is the latest:

It appears some areas in southern Indiana may see a period of moderate snow, and even the Indy metro should see a few hours of steady, light snow for the morning commute. Note, I circled the areas on the map depicting heavier bursts.

Snow Potential: I still like the idea of a coating to up to 1". It isn't important to look at the highest totals, but the range. Because there will be areas of moderate snow, it means if your area misses out on the heavier bursts, you will see a dusting/coating. If your area happens to get under a snow burst, up to 1" will fall in your area. I can tell you I think the best chance of picking up 1" of snow will be south of I-70, where better forcing and moisture is expected. Here is my latest snow potential map:

By the way, I did check the latest webcams out of St. Louis, and the snow has begun there. For the latest radar updates, check out my "radars" tab at the top of the page!

Thanks for checking the blog, have a great night!

Snow On The Way!

Good afternoon, everyone. While it is quiet for now, a storm system is gathering in the Plains, and will deliver light snow tonight. Here is the latest look at the radar, note the snow and rain to our west!

The system will move in after midnight, and will peak between 2am-9am. Here is the hot off the press NAM model for later tonight. It shows the snow moving in towards 3am, and I circled the areas where the model depicts moderate snow:

This is not a big storm by any means, but I'm sure snow-lovers won't mind seeing the flakes fly. Here is my snowfall map:
I expect around a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch in the Indy metro and southward, and less than 1/4" in northern Indiana. I do expect a band of heavier snow just to the southeast, as the system intensifies to our east. This means areas like Versailes, Madison, and south of Richmond could get a nice little snowfall of 1 to perhaps 2".

Again, not a big deal, but this could mean a slushy drive to work in the morning, so you may want to set your alarm a bit earlier in the morning. Timing will be key as well. I expect the brunt of this to hit during the morning rush. If your area gets under a heavier burst, totals *could* ramp up to an inch.

If anything changes, I will update.**Don't forget to follow my weather page on facebook, for rapid updates this evening** Just click the "Facebook Page" tab at the top.
