Another Damp & Cool Day - Improvements for the Weekend

As I type this post this morning, there are areas of light drizzle/showers out there again this morning. It is going to be another chilly day for September. Here is your timeline for today:

Friday should be slightly warmer, with more scattered showers possible. There will be some dry hours as well. The winds willl be much more lighter, so it will feel wamer out there!

Weekend: The weekend will get much warmer, and less rainy! For Saturday, expect a few peeks of sun, with some isolated-scattered showers or t'storms. Highs will hit the middle-upper 70s. Don't cancel your plans! Sunday now looks to be dry with some sunshine! Highs will near 80° !

Next Week: We will return to summer, again! Highs Monday & Tuesday could push well in the 80s! A few storms are possible late Tuesday along a front. After that, it will cool back in the 70s, but with some nice sunshine!

Tropics: We have three named storms in the tropics! We have hurricane Katia, which will not hit the U.S. There is TS Maria way behind Katia in the Atlantic. In the gulf, we have TS Nate, which will becomne a hurricane. This looks to move southwest into Mexico. I wish we could somehow steer it north into Texas, where rain is so desperately needed! It doesn't look like it will as of now.

Another Cool Day Ahead - Rain Chances Too

Good morning, Indiana! We are waking up to gray skies, with some patchy rain this morning. Drizzle/sprinkles will increase in coverage this afternoon. We could see record cool highs go down today. Wait an minute... didn't we have record heat last week!!?? It always has to be one way or the other around here doesn't it? It wouldn't be the Ohio Valley without these extreme temperature swings, right? :)

On & off showers will be the rule the next several days. Highs today & tomorrow will stay in the 60s, add a breeze it will feel cooler. Things get slightly better by the weekend. Rain chances will become less numerous, and temps will start to warm well in the 70s again!

Now on the tropics..... It is busy to say the least!! We have Katia (a major hurricane) that will miss the U.S. but cause lots of dangerous rip currents along the eastern seaboard. Right behind it, we have TD 14, which will likely become a tropical storm today, the evolving into a hurricane! If that isn't enough for you, we have an area to watch closely in the gulf, as it has a HIGH chance of formation, per the NHC. This may actually take a VERY similar track as Lee did, and that is the system that is causing clouds & rain over the state right now. Stay tuned! I hope I'm not boring you with all these words! September chill continues, along with increasing rain chances!

Good morning! What a weekend of EXTREME weather it was! Saturday, Indy set a new record high of 100! It made it nearly unbearable to enjoy outdoor activities. Sunday, we had some rain around, as temps finally cooled off. Yesterday was just a shock to the system! Windy, cloudy, and temps in the 60s. A major adjustment to say the least!

Today will be just like yesterday! Highs will top out in the upper 60s. It will feel cooler with a brisk breeze blowing. Also, rain chances for our far southeast counties of the state. Louisville, Clarksville, New Albany, Madison, & Scottsburg areas of Indiana have a chance of light rain this afternoon. Here is doppler radar to track Lee's leftovers moving closer to home:


Tonight, the rain will begin to move into Indiana, with a chance of some showers across most of central & southern Indiana by tomorrow morning. Rain will become likely by tomorrow afternoon, and rain will be likely off & on until the weekend!! Highs tomorrow & Thursday will only hit the 60s! Temperatures will gradually warm back in the 70s Friday-Sunday.

Rain totals: The highest rainfall totals will be across the southeastern 1/2 of Indiana. This is where over 1" of rain is likely. Many areas south of I-70 could see 1"+, with areas north of I-70 seeing a .50-1".

Basically, a cool, rainy, gloomy forecast! We really need the rain, so can't complain! I will "try" to update things later, so be sure to check back. Have a great day!

Cool temps & rain in the forecast for the week ahead!

Good Sunday evening! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! The weather around here continues to be EXTREME! Many areas topped out at 100 or better yesterday, but today many areas saw much needed rain and 70's! Many areas saw at least some rain, with some areas getting enough to green back the lawns.

MUCH cooler Labor Day tomorrow! Highs will be in the upper 60s-low 70. Add to a stiff wind, it will feel cooler! A wind advisory has been issued for a portion of Indiana tomorrow, as a high pressure to the north, & a tropical storm to our south, will create a windy next couple of days. Also, expect partly sunny skies the next several days. Overall, it is going to be a great day tomorrow for any outdoor activities!

The cool temps will continue throughout the week ahead, but by mid-week, we could begin to feel the effects of LEE here in Indiana. Most of our Wednesday will be nice, but rain will start to move into southern-eastern Indiana by the evening. From Wednesday night - next Saturday, we have a daily chance of rainfall! The best soaking rains will fall in the southern part of Indiana, which should continue to help out our drought! Here is the latest 5 day rainfall map:


A good chuck of Kentucky is going to get absolutely hammered with rain! If I were to give any amounts for us, I would give a .50-1" of rain possible here in central Indiana, with 1-2" for most of southern & eastern Indiana from Thursday-Saturday, but, track may change, and that will have an effect of how much rain we get. If the track goes further west, we could see several inches of rain. If the track shifts east, then we won't get any rain. Kind of like tracking a winter storm, right? What is certain - is that this is going to be the coolest weather we have experienced since May!

100 Degree Heat Today, Changes For The Labor Day Weekend!

Good morning! We are starting the month of September with record heat! Yesterday marked the warmest start to september since 1953, with a high of 99! More records will fall today!

Highs today will top 100, with lots of sunshine. HEAT ADVISORY in effect, because heat illnesses can occur if you don't take the heat seriously. It's not often you say 100 degrees in Indiana!

Another warm, muggy night ahead. Lows in the upper 70s.

It looks like our Saturday will be much like today, sunny & hot! Highs will hit the middle-upper 90s. Storm chances begin to move in Saturday night, and the best chance comes Sunday. It will not be a washout Sunday, but expect a few rounds of storms during the day. Sunday will be cooler, in the low 80s. The cold front FINALLY moves through late Sunday-early Monday, and skies should begin to clear out for our Labor Day. Highs will only hit the low-mid 70s!!! Basically if you have cookouts planned, Sunday will be the worse of the 3 days. Monday will be the best day, because it will feel SO much better!

The forecast really goes up in the air for next week, as we watch the track of Lee. This system could bring days of rain and very cool temps late next week. Right now, Tuesday and Wednesday look gorgeous! I will add a chance of rain next Thursday-Friday. Again, this thing could miss us completely, so don't count on it yet. What is certain is that we will only be in the middle 70s each day next week. Wouldn't be surprised to drop in the 40s Tuesday & Wednesday mornings! From 100 today to 40s for lows next week! That's a change!

Drought Status: The drought continues to get worse across the state of Indiana! A part of Morgan & Johnson counties have been upgraded to SEVERE drought. The rest of central & most of southern Indiana remain in a MODERATE drought. Here is the latest drought monitor map:


This is why we need Lee to track our way next week! We desperately need rain!!!
