Good morning! A cold front to our west is going to move through the state later this evening, which will rescue us from the intense heat, along with a *chance* of some showers/storms. I emphasize chance, because this does not appear to be a widespread heavy rain event, unfortunately. It appears it will be a broken line of storms moving through this evening, but there will be areas that won't get a single drop. Areas that do get under a good storm could pick up .25" of rain. Again, nothing to get excited about.
The good news from this front that it will knock our temperatures back down. Highs will range from the middle and upper 80's Friday through the weekend, with a couple 90's possible again by Sunday.
Next week looks to feature a BIG cool-down! Just as the heat is trying to build back in Sunday, it will get knocked down big-time, with cool, Canadian air dominating for much of next week. How do highs in the upper 70's and low 80's sound, with night-time temps in the 50's? Certainly looks like a nice break from the a/c, and I'm sure no one will complain about that! Here's a bit of the downside, though. Despite a chance for rain Monday, there will be lots of dry weather dominating for next week, and I still don't see any signs of widespread rainfall anytime soon. Can you tell me something new? Haha!
Check out the latest drought monitor. All of central Indiana is in a moderate drought, with a severe drought expanding across northern Indiana. Parts of southwest Indiana are either in a severe or extreme drought. The drought just keeps on getting worse and worse as the weeks go by. This pattern better break sooner than later, or I am scared to think how dry it could be by August, if we continue to see below normal rainfall. Here is the drought map:
