Good evening! :) I have decided to post a map of the latest GFS for Thursday-Friday. Based on latest data, northern Indiana is going to get hammered with significant snow of up to 6" in South Bend! For central Indiana, I am leaning slightly higher on totals, now predicting 1-2" of snow in Indy metro by Friday morning. Here is what the latest GFS now shows:
Here is your breakdown for all sections of Indiana for Thursday:
Northern Indiana: Snow will become heavy through the day. Areas along the Indiana Toll Road, including Gary, Michigan City, South Bend, Goshen, Bristol, and Angola, could see 1"+ snowfall rates during the afternoon, with high winds making visibility extremely low. Snow showers will continue through mid-day Friday. Snow totals will range from 5-6" in Gary, South Bend, and Elkhart northward. Cities like Plymouth, Warsaw, Fort Wayne, and Rensselaer could pick up 2-4" of wind-driven snow.
Central Indiana: Temperatures will drop below freezing by the afternoon. Light flurries early in the day will transition to widespread snow showers for the afternoon. Some will fall heavy at times, making visibility extremely poor, and possibly dumping 1" of snow in an hours period of time. Roads will become hazardous, with the snow blowing around, and sticking to pavement as our temps fall through the 20's by Thursday evening. **The evening commute Thursday could be a mess!** Snow showers will linger through Thursday night, and come to an end by Friday. Snow accumulations will range from 1-2" across central Indiana, with isolated areas getting 3"!
Southern Indiana: Flurries and sprinkles will be likely early in the day, with temps slightly above freezing. Temperatures will fall just below freezing by the afternoon, as snow showers become widespread, reducing visibility, and causing slick roads by the evening. I expect the snow showers to gradually end late Thursday night. Up to 1" is possible, with some areas seeing slightly less. **I fully expect several delays for southern Indiana schools Friday morning, as side roads will be icy, and wind chills will be dangerously cold**
The big story will be the dangerously cold air behind the shot of snow! Highs Friday will be in lower 20's! Some models now bring a clipper into parts of Indiana Saturday, with light snow possible. I will have more on this tomorrow.
For the short term, the rain is still expected to move in by the morning commute tomorrow. Have a great night, and check back tomorrow for more updates!
How much snow for Muncie?? Thanks!
