We have major changes that will be taking place over the next 48 hours, which includes 50's, with rain and thunder, to arctic air and snow chances! We got it all!! :)
The Rain Chances
Rain will arrive by the morning rush tomorrow, and will stick around through the day. Rainfall totals will range from a quarter/half-inch. Despite the rain, it will be mild, near 50 degrees. Here is a look at the GFS model for tomorrow:
Snow Chances
After the rains come to an end Wednesday night, MUCH colder air will filter in. On Thursday, snow showers will become likely through the day, as the temps go DOWN! The snow will come in several waves, and will fall heavy for brief periods in some locations, with roads becoming slick through the day! The GFS shows some nice snow activity late Thursday afternoon and evening. That is when the best coverage of snow is expected:
It also looks like a disturbance will help aid the snow through Thursday night:
Snow Accumulations
In these type of set-ups, it is NOT easy to predict totals for a widespread area, as totals can vary greatly, depending on who gets under a heavy band, and who misses out. Based on the latest trends, it appears the totals may be going UP, slightly. For the general area, anywhere between a half-inch to two inches of snow can accumulate by Friday morning, in any given area of central and southern Indiana. For northern Indiana, I think 1-3" is likely, with South Bend and Gary picking up near 4". think snow could linger through much of the overnight Thursday, so Friday morning's commute will be on the slick side! I know this isn't the real snow that everyone is wanting, bue hey, it's something to be a little happy about! :) Here is the GFS accumulated snowfall through Friday evening:
A new system next week is really catching my attention!!! This bring a wintry mix to the area around a week from today. This would have the potential to blow up into a winter storm for the Ohio Valley, but it's extreme long-range! At least there is something to be hopeful about! :) **Side Note** The GFS has been known to show winter storms 7 days out, and then completely dissappear from the model the next day. So, don't get excited, yet! Still, THINK SNOW!!
Thanks for checking the blog, have a great evening!
Hey Nathan! I love your weather blog, it is the only place I check the forecast for the weather in Indiana. Keep up the great work, you are going to be a wonderful meteorologist one day!
