HOT HOT HOT

Good evening! Thanks for checking up on the weather! HOT, HOT, HOT, what's new? Seriously! I love hot weather and everything, but it has been making it miserable to do anything outside that doesn't include swimming! Today made the 14th straight day of 90+ temps, and we may set an all time record of back-to-back 90 degree days before this heat wave ends.

The next few days will be getting hotter and hotter, but the humidity will not be as oppresive. Temps tomorrow-Wednesday will range from 92-96.

A cold front will try to move in Wednesday afternoon, so an isolated storm is possible. Most areas won't see a drop. This will knock down our temps slightly for the end of the week.

A similar cold front will move through late Friday, so another small chance of rain, with some relief likely by next weekend. We may see temps down in the upper 80s next weekend, with a noticeable drop in humidity.

LONG RANGE PATTERN- RELIEF ON THE WAY?

August is expected to start like July ended, hot! But, it looks like a pattern flip "could" be on the way by the middle of August. A trough will likely set up over the eastern U.S. with the heat ridge shifting in the western U.S. This pattern will likely mean above-average rainfall too, which is something we REALLY need. Here are a couple maps showing the pattern flip:

Indy hits 100 today!

At 3:07 this afternoon, Indy hits 100 degrees, something we haven't done in 23 years! Not only that, the heat index is much higher! Out of all the heat waves we have been through since I've been around, I don't evere remember having such a prolonged and intense heat wave as this one! Sadly, this heat wave isn't really going to "end" anytime soon, as temps will continue to stay at or above 90.

Tomorrow will be another repeat of today. Sunny skies, temps back in the upper 90s. Heat indices as high as 115! Enjoy any pools if you can, but most pool water temps are around 90, so pools aren't even bringing relief!

The weekend will stay very hot and humid, in the middle 90s. Scatteted storms will likely go up each afternoon, but not everybody will see rain this weekend.

Temps next Monday and Tuesday will "drop" around 90, *maybe upper 80s*, but likely not breaking the heat wave. Isolated storms are possible Monday. Temps will go back in the low-mid 90s by the second half of next week. This heat wave is in NO hurry to leave.

Thanks for checking, enjoy the heat wave! :)

Lots of heat on the way!

RIGHT NOW: It is a pleasant evening outside, with clear skies, and temps in the mid 70s. We will cool down in the middle-upper 60s by morning.

WEEKEND FORECAST: It is going to be a great weekend to be outside, especially by the pool! Temps both days will be near 90, with sunny skies, and moderate levels of humidity.

NEXT WEEK: There is a good chance that the most impressive levels of summer heat and humidity will be around for the early part of next week. We could be talking about a temp of 95 in Indianapolis on Monday, with a heat index possibly as high as 105. That is some serious heat, and if that does happen, a heat advisory will likely be issued. Temps by Wednesday-Friday will cool back in the mid-upper 80s. There is a daily chance of pop-up storms Monday and Tuesday, then dry for the second half of next week.

LONG RANGE OUTLOOK: Now to the fun part of this update! Here is an image of the pattern we have had all summer, with the fight of the ridge to the southwest, and the active northwest flow:

Storms northwest of Indy!

RIGHT NOW:   A line of storms has been slowly moving out of northern Indiana, and dropping south towards Indy. The storms have been slow moving, with some flooding reported in northern Indiana. There are severe t'storm warnings just north of Indianapolis right now.

REST OF TONIGHT: These storms will gradually move south, and be in Indianapolis by midnight. Lots of lightning, strong winds, and very heavy rain will be the threats with this line. How far south will these storms go? A few storms are possible to start tomorrow morning in southern Indiana. Here is the latest radar:

Partly sunny skies are forecast tomorrow, with a 20-30% chance of a scattered storm. Lots of dry weather is expected, with some places completely dry! It will be hot and muggy, with temps around 90.

Independece Day Monday looks pretty good! Areas along and north of Indy can expect mostly sunny skies and dry weather, with a slightly better chance of some storms in southern Indiana, but certainly no washouts! Highs will be cooler, in the 80s.

The rest of next week looks like a typical July pattern. Tuesday looks great with sunny skies, and slightly lower humidity. Temps will still be very warm, in the upper 80s. More small storm chances for Wednesday and Thursday, with temps in the upper 80s. Thanks for checking the blog!
