TORNADO AND SNOW TALK!

Good afternoon everyone! I continue to fine-tune the latest confirmed tornados from yesterday's storms, as the NWS survey team continues to survey the damage. The country as a whole had 146 severe weather reports yesterday! Along with that, 6 tornadoes in the Ohio Valley! Truly incredible for the heart of winter, and the craziest January day I can recall! Here is the link from the National Weather Service for the latest on where the tornadoes touched down: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lmk/?n=jan17_2012 Here is a look at the storm reports from yesterday:

Now to the SNOW TALK side of the blog! There are two systems expected to move through in the next 48 hours, and models are STILL all over the place! So please bear with me, as I talk about when these systems will hit, and what kind of precipitation you can expect.

System #1 We have a weak clipper expected to move in tomorrow. What makes the forecast challenging is that it is a narrow area of snow expected, and where it sets up is key for accumulations. What is clear is that the best chance of picking up light accumulations would be north of I-70. Southern Indiana looks to miss out on this one! :( It appears the best chance of snow will be from 8am-1pm:

Snow potential is up to 1" being possible from Indy northward, less south.

System #2 Another system will move in on Friday. There are a LOT of uncertainties with this storm, as a major temperature gradient sets up! Southern Indiana may see temps in the 40's Friday night, while northern Indiana is in teens! You should get the point, that any shifts in the forecast will have MAJOR changes to the forecast! Right now, it does appear areas from Fort Wayne, Plymouth, and northward could see 4-8" of snow on the ground by Saturday morning! So be aware of that if your headed north Friday-Saturday. The rest of the state won't get in on the action until Friday night. This will be light precip, but there is the potential for light icing across central Indiana Friday night. Here is MY thinking (You will be hearing different forecasts from media until the day of the event)....

- Areas across northern Indiana, esp. north of a Muncie to Lafayette line, could see several inches of snow from this event.

-For central and southern Indiana, the snows will stay NORTH during the day Friday. Another system from the south will bring the precipitation chances Friday night.

-Depending on how far north the warm front gets Friday will play a MAJOR role on the forecast. It appears light snow, icing, and sleet are all in the possibilities Friday night, mainly north of a Bloomington to Columbus line! Southern Indiana will only deal with plain rain (the way it looks now)!

So be sure to keep a close eye to my blog as I fine-tune things. Keep in mind it will be a light event for central Indiana, but we all know how a little snow or ice can make roads slick! Like I said, models are all over the place, so the forecast will likely change.

Thanks for checking the blog, have a great evening! :)
